Ella practises as a junior barrister at Quay Chambers, working alongside Harry Waalkens KC. She acts for health practitioners including doctors, dentists, and psychologists across professional disciplinary and regulatory proceedings before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the Human Rights Review Tribunal, the District Court, the High Court, and the Court of Appeal.
Before coming to the Bar, Ella worked as a solicitor at Cowan Law, where she represented clients across the Tenancy Tribunal, Disputes Tribunal, District Court, and High Court in civil, employment, relationship property, construction, and family violence matters. She has also worked with the Independent Police Conduct Authority on its investigation into the 2022 COVID-19 protests, and with the NZ Police Waitangi Tribunal Response Team on the WAI 3060 inquiry into Aotearoa's justice system.
Ella grew up in Hawke's Bay and studied law at Victoria University of Wellington, where she was also a columnist and podcast host for Salient, the university's student magazine. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2024.
