Ben is a Junior Barrister to James Donkin. Together, they advise clients on a wide range of civil disputes, including large scale and complex commercial litigation.
Ben has particular expertise in insolvency, directors' liability, contract, property and company law. His experience includes:
- acting for an ASX listed company and its director in High Court proceedings arising out of an initial public offering and a related shareholder class action
- acting for directors alleged to have breached their directors' duties for allowing a company to enter into particular high-value transactions
- acting for a Singaporean listed company in proceedings to enforce a foreign arbitral award against parties who were found to have abused the courts' processes across multiple High Court and Court of Appeal matters
- acting for an insurer on multiple claims arising from the Christchurch earthquakes
- acting for banks and commercial landlords in numerous enforcement proceedings
Prior to joining James in Chambers, Ben was an Associate at Bell Gully, where he practiced for five years.
Ben graduated from the University of Auckland with an LLB (Honours) and BCom (majoring in accounting). He has also studied at Fudan University in Shanghai, as the recipient of a Prime Minister's Scholarship for Asia. Ben has been published in the New Zealand Law Journal and tutored the law of contract at the University of Auckland's Faculty of Law.
